Werner studied communication design with a focus on photography (Dipl. Designer FH). After graduating, he commuted between New York and Berlin before he settled down in Hamburg as a freelance photographer. Werner works for magazines, companies, and agencies. He enjoys working with people and is an appointed member of the DGPh (German Society for Photography). His clear visual language can be found in commissioned work, magazines, and various book projects. For many years, he documented the life and work of Helmut Schmidt, co-publisher of Die Zeit and former Chancellor of Germany. The photo book ‚Helmut Schmidt bei der ZEIT‘ was published by ZEIT Verlag. His books ‚Desert Birds‘ and ‚Airtropolis‘  – both part of aeronautic exhibitions – were published by Kehrer. In 2022, he collaborated with publisher Gerhard Steidl on the portrait photo book ‚Zeitaufnahmen‘, featuring numerous of his portrait photographs. Also with Steidl he realized ‚Das Michael Otto Prinzip‘, published in 2023, and ‚Old Mills Never Die‘, released in 2024 for the 250th anniversary of Birkenstock. With his family he loves traveling and the sea.
